Brianne B, 2017

In May 2019 my initial visa was expiring and I had some big decisions to make. I was given the choice of obtaining a work visa or to move on somewhere else. Teaching in England had become everything I had wanted and I had made a really close group of friends. But I had also been hearing from some of my former co-workers and friends who had made the move to Asia, it sounded like an amazing adventure. I decided to do some research on the matter and I found that the province of Alberta (where I am certified) has a lot of great international schools across the world. It was then that I decided that it was time to explore something completely different than the comforts of Europe.

I applied to several schools throughout Asia and within a month I had been contacted and hired by my current school. I am now working at an Alberta accredited international high school in Qingdao, China. I knew basically nothing about the city, or really even China for that matter, but I saw it as a new adventure. Living in China has been really great. My students are very high achieving and well behaved, the workload is really balanced, and I have had opportunities to travel throughout Asia. It has been a real culture shock at times and I find myself missing the convince of the UK and my friends, but without my initial support from Aurelia, I would not be the world-traveling teacher I am today!
